Bible Study

Peasley Cross Home Group is a Bible Study Group held in the church building every Thursday night, 7:00pm to 8:30 pm.

We have followed the Lifebuilder series of Bible Study notes, and selected books of the Bible directly, previously considering the lives of Ruth and Esther, the Church Community and the words and works of Jesus.

You’re welcome to join us (no need to book) or drop us an email via our contact page for more details.

Heritage Day

Peasley Cross URC 50th Anniversary Celebration

Sunday 15th September marked the 50th Anniversary of the current building at Peasley Cross.

The previous building, the ‘old church’, was demolished in 1973 and our current building replaced it on the original site in 1974.

Although the new church building was only destined to last approx. 25years, it’s still going strong 50years later, due in part to the skills and labour of church members who have kept it decorated and repaired when needed.

To help us celebrate our 50years, we held a Celebration Service led by Rev Allison Claxton and the Elders, which was attended by the Mayor of St Helens Mrs. Jeanette Banks, her Consort David Banks and their Attendant, Darren.

The Moderator, Rev Geoff Felton, representatives of local Churches, and friends were welcomed by Helen Greener the Church Secretary, and prayers were said by Margaret Worrall, to express our joy and thanks to God.

As well readings by Barbara Bingley, we also had a whistle-stop tour of the history of Peasley Cross URC thanks to Paul Fairhurst who shared a little of our journey from Congregational Church to URC and helped us understand where we came from as a congregation.

Rev Allison Claxton used the example of Joshua as she explained that this building is an inheritance to be shared and that we should think about putting away ‘old gods’ and doing what Joshua said, ‘as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord’.

As part of the service, we filled our Time Capsule with letters, photographs, cards and other items from the various groups which use the building, including a cloth sheet of handprints in paint from our Messy Church families and leaders, and our guests and visitors were invited to place something in the box for future generations.

The service was followed by a wonderful buffet provided by the church, and everyone was invited to sit, chat, eat and reminisce about their memories of Peasley Cross.

It was a wonderful time, full of laughter, song and praise to the God who has kept us this ‘Church on the Corner’ for so many years.

Here’s to the next 50!

Connecting with God

Prayer & Spirituality

We at Peasley Cross URC believe prayer is important, it is a way of meeting with God, listening to the Holy Spirit and communicating our needs, wants and desires to God, knowing that He hears us and wants to share our lives.

Peasley Cross has a Prayer Chain which is for any and all prayer needs.

If you would like us to pray for you or your situation please contact Rev Allison on 078111 38238  or complete our short prayer form here and it will be prayed for on the chain.

We also have a prayer book which is available in the lobby for any prayers that you would like including in our Sunday Morning Intercessions and a Prayer Box  which is also in the lobby for private prayer needs that are for the Minister only.
